Yep, that is exactly the problem I still have on Win2K. The way icons
are displayed has been changed in the last couple of months (to make
it behave better on Vista I think, and to get away from some of the
limitations of ownerdrawn menus?)

That all sounds pretty similar to mine, although mine is certainly not
a new install.

I did have ZoneAlarm, but have 'uninstalled' it (if that's possible,
although it doesn't show any signs of still being there).

I also had a Belkin Bluetooth dongle which had some strange
side-effects, but that is gone too now.

Virus scanner is Alwil Avast.

I have a more standard setup with windows on C:

If there is anything I can do to help track this one down, let me know
too. I use right-click on the folder background a lot.
