* you must restart after changing the autotuning settings
* virus scanners can interfere with the network too, especially with
large files

Is it the upload or download? Or both? You mentiond first upload, but
then download...

And: Vista has problems if you have your working copy on a network share
(but those should finally be fixed with the upcoming SP1 for Vista).
