It was usefull because whenever the log dialog only showed one revision,
this revision was preselected. Therefore the log message and the modified
files were shown immediately.

I've changed the log dialog so that the top most revision is always
preselected when the log dialog opens, not only when a single revision is
shown (revision 9191).
Calling "Show log" in TortoiseBlame now shows the selected revision and the
usual previous hundred revisions (revision 9192).
