I'd like to propose a variation of the winmerge methode:

after browsing to the first file/directory the context menu would
provide a "compare with ..." entry to launch the second browser for
selecting the second file/directory only (this would also allow to
choose a different revision.

After confirming (ok-botton or by double-clicking the file/directory)
the second browser is closed and the diff is shown.

Somewhat like the "..." buttons in the branch/tag, switch & merge
dialogs.

Would also fit nicely with the "copy to ..." context menu entry and
everywhere else a repo path is needed 8-)
