I can reproduce this with TortoiseMerge 1.3.5. But it works ok with the
latest version from trunk. So this got already fixed.
Btw: if TortoiseMerge can't show the correct chars (i.e. you see squares
or question marks instead of real chars), *never* save the file because
you most likely will loose data - that's because in those cases, the
encoding isn't correct.
