Even if I only wish to see a single diff extra clicks are required.
I need to see multiple diffs if it's not clear from the logs in which
revision something was changed.

I know, but you wanted a consistent interface. I would simply ignore
the doubleclick for a path.
If you're afraid of accidental double-clicks, what about using a popup menu?
