We had that once. But people complained about it. You see, opening a
file from the repository requires that file to be downloaded from the
server first, which can take quite a while (depending on the server,
network speed and size of the file). And people kept doubleclicking
accidentally (e.g. while clicking on the 'expand' plus-sign or while
selecting two items next to each other).
So we removed that double click thing - you still can open a file by
using the context menu.
