Correct, thanks for that catch, Rainer. I should have written svn:ignore.

The fact that TortoiseSVN | Settings | General has an "Exclude/Ignore pattern" setting threw me off. I don't understand that name, either -- is it excluding or ignoring? (Hint: it only ignores, it does not exclude.) In the Subversion literature, this is the global-ignores configuration setting [1], so why change the terminology in TortoiseSVN?

There is no svn:exclude. I think you mean the svn:ignore property.
