The problem would be converting to and from po file format. There ist a
standardized, vendor neutral XML Format called TMX for this purpose, but I
haven't seen any non-commercial converters yet.

Yes. Can't find the thread either. Gmane search yields no result. I guess it
must have been Stannic, because he takes care of the russian translation
now, but at that time there was more than one russian volunteer.
