The whole point of having those libs as externals is to make the whole
build procedure easier. With your approach, we still would have to
check out two different sources (TSVN and the externals) - which means
once again a source of errors (where to check out the externals?).

Really, I don't understand the problem.
- if you need to build TSVN, you *need* those external libs anyway
- if you don't want to build TSVN, you don't need the source
- if you're translating stuff, only check out the languages/doc folder
- if you want the source, but still don't want to build it, simply
check out with --ignore-externals
