Wow, what inconsistant behavoir.
If the target branch directory exists then what you get is not what you
ask for.
So by deleting the targer branch directory and (in my case blowing away
the repository @rev1 ) then starting again did the trick.

So much for setting up a template folder structure and trying to save
precious time.
