For me, it's not firewalls per se, but this specific one. ZoneAlarm
turned out to be worse than any spyware I know. Once installed, you
can't get rid of it completely. Even on their website, they claim that
it can't be done (well, you have to really search for that one, and
they don't admit that directly with these words...).
Then, it uses OpenSSL (which isn't bad), but they install the openssl
dll in the windows directory (*that's* what's really bad). We had a
lot of problems because of this already. I even sent them a mail about
this (openssl clearly states that their API isn't stable and that if
you build openssl as a dll you MUST NOT copy it into the windows dir)
- they first ignored my mail, then replied simply that they don't care
if other apps break because of that!!! They think 'security' (at least
what they call security) is more important than having all other apps
run cleanly.
