What do you mean with "did not work"? Did the update fail with an error
message? Did the update succeed but the properties weren't updated?

When you check for modifications, did you click on the button "Check
Repository"? If the local property status is modified, you'll get a
conflict on the next update (if of course the remote properties are
modified too).

Also, you can check the properties directly with the repository browser
(just to make sure the other user really did commit them).
