That really depends (but I don't know on what exactly ;)).
You should first contact them on the dev mailing list, telling about
your intention to implement that feature. Theny they will either
reject the idea right away for reasons we didn't think of yes
(problems, security, ...) or they will get you pointers where and how
to start.
