yes, I'm aware that the general access to a repository over a network
share isn't safe. Sorry to ask not clear enough. I meant your described
way to create new repositories on a network share. I fear even that would
fail if you create the repository with the Windows based TortoiseSVN on
a Linux based server via Samba because the Subversion book states that
the Berkeley DB environments aren't portable between Windows and Linux.
(I guess you are using a Windows based Subversion server. Am I right? :-)
By the way: I create new repositories on the command line (via Secure
Shell) with "svnadmin create" as Norbert described.
