With VirusScan 7 on W2K+ I have not seen this problem, on several machines.

In the On-Access Scanning properties you can click on the Processes icon
and then in one of the tabs there's an Exclusions button. In that
dialog you can specify *\.svn\* or similar. But I usually just exclude
my whole working copy.
