You could filter on the server before downloading the mails :-)

Yes, by creating another mailing list.

I've got the impression that the patches list is only used by the
translators anyway. All the (few) other patches went to the dev list. We
renamed the "translations" list to "patches" a few months ago, because there
was not much traffic on it. But does that really justify having a patches
and a i18n list? We've got 260 mails in total on the patches list, which is
a weeks worth of mail on the dev list. So I expect you'll have more KBytes
of mail in your inbox from the dev list when you're away, than you'll get
from the patches list.
