huh, sounds really scary. Ok, the manual tracking is likely to be error
prone, but if you directly lock to certain tags as mentioned by steve, it
shouldn't be that hard. Although it is maybe a bad idea if these externals
are really fast changing and you want to develop all projects
simultainously. I decided, to place the externals in an _ext directory to
indicate that the content doesn't not belong to the main project directly. I
think I have to try it some time, hopefully I'm aware now for the biggest
pitfalls.
