Are you running a nightly build, or the 'proper' 1.1.1?

There have been a large number of improvements to the icon overlay stuff in
the latest builds, which go well beyond just increasing cache lifetime. I
suspect these would be particularly effective on a network drive.

There is also a serious performance bug in SVN in this area, and I'm not
sure is being patched in the current nightlies or not.

I don't know whether or not Stefan would take a simple 'longer cache on
network drive' patch - I'm afraid he's away for a week, too.
