You misunderstood what I was saying. I agree with you that requiring the
setting does not make sense in all cases, and I use a private Subversion
repository very much the way you do.
The only thing I was assuming everyone agreed with was the need for a
meaningful message in the event that the client was preventing a commit
due to the log message, not that that setting should in fact be the
default (which it appears is now moot anyway with 1.0.8!)
