I haven't decided yet if I agree it is a problem, but I certainly do not
have any problem with you filing this as an issue. I am having a hard time
attaching the importance to it that you seem to feel it deserves.

I am pretty sure the current behavior is intentional, at least as much as we
knew it worked this way when we added it. I certainly am not aware of any
problems it can cause in the usage of the property by Subclipse. Obviously
in the case where you add the same thing multiple times it would be expected
that you would go back and assign different identifiers to each instance.

Anyway, please add the issue so that it does not get lost.
