Subject: Large Project Performance Test #002 - "New Working Copy Format"
(Disclaimer - This testing is not definative. It documents one [1] user's
experience.)
************************
* Client Configuration *
************************
Client Configuration
2GB RAM machine and startup with -vmargs -Xms256m -Xmx512m on JRE v. 1.5
Eclipse v. 3.2.1 with Callisto (minus C++).
Subclipse v.1.1.7 (using JavaHL and new working copy format)
*********************
* Summary Statement *
*********************
Test Outcome
Subclipse - Tasks were completed although one reboot of Eclipse was
required.
Subversive - New working copy format not supported.
Observation:
A drammatic decrease in the number of files and folders was observed within
.svn directories.
Subjective Conclusion:
Given a continued observation of overall sluggish performance within
Eclipse for handling projects consisting of many (often small) files, the
reduction (of "overhead") warrants use of Subclipse at least until the new
working copy format is supported with Subversive.
