Hmm, so is your guess that in Windows version, the Apply Patch just
knows how to deal with this absolutely path correctly? I tried simply
modifying a file and creating a patch and got the same thing -- apply
patch claimed to not find the file with its full path. Though I swear
this was working a week ago.

Think you could send me a sample patch file in Windows, so I can see
how the file paths look?
