[Subclipse-users] Question about checkout directory naming

I am new to both Subversion and Subclipse -- but I have a question about how a checkout directory is named.
I checked out a top level directory from my repository, which brought me through a 2 screen wizard. (I right-clicked on the directory and clicked on Checkout... from the resulting menu).
In the first screen it defaulted to a project name matching the directory name -- which is exactly how I wanted it so I accepted that and continued. The second screen only allows me to redirect the location of the files outside my workspace if I so choose. I want it there so also do not change that from the default.
I expected to get a file following the naming convention workspace-location\top-level-directory-name
However, instead I got workspace-location\repository name.
It seems a little odd. Also, how will I be able to check out other high level directories from the same repository? If it follows the same naming convention, it will merge both directories into a single one named after the repository. I was never given a chance to change the directory name -- which would have made sense if it made the disk name the same as the repository name as I expected.
Is this how this is supposed to work?
Thanks,
