I find the use of the term "rename" unintuitive in this context.
If the operation were carefully worded to show that it was moving the
contents of the default package to a new package, instead of changing
the name of the default package (which I believe will cause confusion
for beginners) then I would be more comfortable with the concept.

Is not the real solution to the root problem to fix the integration
with Subclipse so that it can add the new unversioned package to
version control automatically?
