And no, I am not obvisously unable to configure my mailclient but I do not have access rights to do that since we're a large company and I am not the administrator. Also the question was not how to change AW: into RE: but actually the intention was to NOT use any such prefix at all to reduce subject cluttering. But don't you think that this is off-topic?

No. The only apparent misuse here is on your side. You are obviously unable to
configure your mail program to behave like it should and everyone else's
does, i. e. use "Re:" instead of "AW:", set the correct "In-Reply-To" header
field.
