Do you know what version your server is running? Also what access method?
 svn? http? JavaSVN does not support file:// and I also think it does
support 1.0 servers.

Getting JavaHL is easy on OS X. Just install the Subversion package from
here:

http://metissian.com/projects/macosx/subversion/

You would have to uninstall JavaSVN.
