SSL issue

I have seen that there is already an issue open in the issue tracker
concerning missing SSL support in subclipse. McClain Looney said he
added it to svnurl, but the user interface still won't accept https://
URLs (eclipse 2.1.1, subclipse 0.81, linux, using SVN repository browser
perspective to add a new location).

I would have looked into this myself, but after 4 hours of trying to get
subclipse compiled within or outside of eclipse I am giving up for now.

Could anyone give me some hints on how to help overcome this feature
lack? I consider this a killer. I cannot think of any
serious/professional SW-development that would transfer their data
anonymously/unencrypted over http.
