FWIW, one of the ASF's counsel, specifically Larry Rosen, said it does
invalidate it to have both "Copyright" and "(c)" together and advised us to
remove it. And, yes, he brought up the "(c)" isn't a valid choice given
the law.

The ASF has now settled upon our current license template (which doesn't
include a copyright notice at all now). He's now happy as a clam about our
notices and we don't have to worry about years ever again.

This doesn't constitute legal advise either, but IANAL. =) -- justin
