There are lots of particular cases, depending on the country of
publication, the year of publication, and so on. According to

(which lists all the rules for the U.S.), it appears that this was
needed in the past, but this is no longer the case for the U.S.
Other countries may have different rules. So, I think that it is
still better to make the copyright notice correct.

It may also be useful for the end user.
