Philip's trick to redirect the traffic to local port 8080 via socat
should let you see what your client is sending.

But, a VPN could certainly be mucking with something...have you tried
the HTTP/1.0 force yet? You'd need serf 1.1.x which I don't think
MacPorts has yet... -- justin
