My opinion (not a vote):

1. The trunk/tags/branches convention is pretty ingrained in Subversion
use, from what I can tell. Everyone knows where to find the mainline in
most project-specific Subversion repositories. Altering the convention
would probably create frustration.

2. If we had a time machine and could change the convention back before
Subversion 1.0, I don't know if I would agree with that either. "The
trunk is just another branch" is one of those world-views that new users
of version control can find intimidating--they're not necessarily ready
to think about branches when first starting out. (2) is certainly not
as strong of an argument as (1), though.

3. Like the other Greg, I don't really understand the practical benefit
of making the trunk parallel to other branches.

4. This is not a "tiny request." :)
