Very clean patch, thanks. Note that a log message always helps, see

In this case, we could probably write the log message ourselves if you
don't supply one.

I wasn't following the thread, so haven't applied the patch yet -- I'd
like to know that others (Eric Gillespie?) think it's a good idea first.
