I built and testeed the Perl binding on trunk with Perl 5.8 just
last week. Everything seemed fine.

Not me.

It's a valid concern. I can confirm that Perl and Python are
working, at least on Ubuntu Dapper i386 and amd64. Ruby is not,
but I think that's because Dapper's swig is too old. I'm going
to try again with the 1.5.x RC tar file, which I expect to work.
