svntar, anybody?

Hello everybody,

I'd like to pipe parts of a repository over some channel to another box.

I found "svntar" mentioned here:
  http://svn.haxx.se/users/archive-2006-03/1310.shtml

But that thread ends with a PHP solution that exports into a temporary
directory, which is not feasible for my needs.

Does someone know if such a thing does already exist?
