Death of svn.collab.net's hard disk

I am interested in the details surrounding the recent untimely death of
svn.collab.net's hard disk, in order to understand and mitigate risk of
this sort in our operations.

Was it a RAID-5 appliance or have any other durability features?

Are there any lessons learned from this exercise?
