One thing I'll suggest is that we backport all of the ra_serf changes
in trunk to 1.4.x.

There's a whole lot of stuff that's been fixed in trunk since 1.4.x
branched off and it'd be good to sync 1.4.x back to that. The only
things that are trunk/1.5.x-specific AFAICT is the wc_callbacks
cancel_func (util.c) and the APR 1.3.x optimization (in commit.c). I
just plopped trunk's libsvn_ra_serf/ dir in a 1.4.x build and did a
checkout succesfully. The diff against 1.4.x is ~32kb:
