It might be possible to do all the necessary operations on the working
file while creating the log file, generating log file commands as
necessary, thus creating a log file that does not need to access the
working file in the way that fails. In that case any exclusive file
lock would not cause an error while running the log file. I don't
know whether such an approach is feasible.
