If I'm not mistaken, our very own Jim Blandy implemented it in gdb, too :-).

For those who were not present in the Elder Days: Jim Blandy invented
(as in, named and designed much of) Subversion. This weekend I
visited him and his wife Vivienne and their daughter Madoka in
Bloomington, Indiana. They're doing great, and Jim is a very happy
Subversion user. Here he is sitting with Madoka this Sunday:
