Yes, the new SWIG is vastly simpler (and it provides more functionality) in
terms of dependencies imposed on users. The new SWIG does not require
anything installed on the computer to use SWIG generated code, which is the
best part.

I haven't actually had a chance to test everything, since I am still
struggling with the build process, but I plan on working on it. It is
great that perl has a test suite, it makes it so much easer. I wish
something like it existed for the python code.
