Your browser or download software is cheating you. I just downloaded 1.0.3 and:

$ md5sum.exe -b subversion-1.0.3.tar.gz
1d5722a515be8f1aa6cfb779d99c6a11 *subversion-1.0.3.tar.gz

$ file subversion-1.0.3.tar.gz
subversion-1.0.3.tar.gz: gzip compressed data, from Unix, max compression
