Well, I think it would be much better to have a cover/shim library that a
SQL backend could use, rather than writing a gazillion db-specific FS
modules.

But if you were going with a pure Oracle approach, then the best API is
the 'upi' library. Does Oracle publish that at all? That was what we used
internally when I worked at Oracle, but I dunno that they ever let
customers at the thing. Anybody know?
