I agree with Karl here, this is all client-side configuration stuff.

Also, even though I'm on Windows myself, I would prefer the default to
stay ".svn". This would prevent me from having to checkout all of my
working copies anew. If someone has a problem with the .svn folder,
these people can change their configuration.

Obviously, the FAQ should be changed, as well as the book.
