It doesn't really belong there, since tla (read: Arch) is also written
in C and there was no criticism in "Diagnosing svn" of Subversion having
been written in C.

Subversion was written in C because there is a large pool of skilled C
programmers, because it has an excellent toolset on essentially all
platforms, and because you can make bindings to C code from a wide
variety of languages.
