That did it! Thanks! The final configure command I used was:

./configure --without-apache --without-apxs --without-swing --without-zlib
--without-berkeley-db --without-neon --enable-all-static --disable-shared

No, the server runs great on Linux; I only need the ability to get svn+ssh
access from this workstation.
