a shared drive.

I've done that before, and it worked fine. I don't recommend it, though.
Better to have each user have their *own* working copy. That way you don't
wipe each others changes out when multiple people have the same file open
in their editor. Sharing a working copy kinda defeats the whole history and
accountability concept that subversion so ably provides.
