Shamim, everybody listed in the COMMITTERS file -- except the first
three or four who actually set up the initial version of our rules --
has been in your shoes. You're right in saying that some people adjust
more quickly than others. I take this to be an admission that you need
more time to understand how this project works. My advice then is to
_take_ the time. As Garrett suggested, just lurking on the lists for a
few months, watching commits and discussions go by, is the best way to
learn. Almost all Subversion comitters and other contributors started
out that way; sure, some saw the light quicker than others, but this is
not a race and there's no shame in taking more time. I can understand
that it can be hard to understand a process you're not used to,
especially if you haven't had the opportunity to work in many different
environments. The effort is definitely worth it, however; I can testify
that the things I've learned while following several such projects (not
always as a committer, or even a patch contributor) have actually helped
me in my day job, too -- and that's never a bad thing.
