seriously, there's this list of bugs in issuezilla tagged with 'beta'
and '1.0', and when we finish those up, and people stop reporting new
ones, we'll call it 1.0. making promises as to when that will happen
has traditionally been rather futile, so we try not to do that.

and as for 'regular stream of new versions sporting ever more new
features', i beg to differ. recent releases have been almost entirely
fixing bugs, or making interface changes (which are really bugs in the
interface). there haven't been any real 'new features' in a while, and
even the few features that do pop up are small things that don't impact
the rest of the system much.
