Is it possible that there is a similar problem in "svn up"?

My repos have about 1500 files in one directory. Commit and status
always work but an update, if some files
in that big directory changed, result in server hang. My server has 750
MB Memory for 2 users.

Top shows a size of 1.5 GB or more for httpd. Sometimes the server give
no response for 15min!!
Sometimes I have to reboot.

This happens only on update when something has changed in that big
directory..
When I continue a checkout of the same repos, the memory usage is < 50MB !!!

Changes on other, small directories are fast and without problems.
