Exactly this, I am using port forwarding for 8080 to a single
machine. So literally, if I start from any machine on the subnet,
and request a fully qualified hostname then I kill the connection.
If I use local IP addresses to access the directory, I get no such
problem. If I access the repository from an external computer using
the fully qualified hostname, it works fine too. So this definitely
sounds like a router issue breaking the connection when a roundtrip
is attempted. In that case, webdav is doing its job. If there
isn't a software resolution for this, just put out a warning (maybe
on FAQ) that if checksums are failing constantly, it could be a NAT
router issue.
